Biography
Carme Fernández Vidal is a composer and holds a PhD from the University of the Balearic Islands with the Extraordinary Doctorate Award. She has advanced degrees in the specialties of Composition, Piano, Music Theory, and Pedagogy.

As a composer, she has received commissions from various institutions and numerous soloists and ensembles. Her catalog includes chamber works with a wide range of instrumental formations, symphonic and vocal works, as well as a significant number of solo compositions. Most of these have been premiered and are regularly programmed in major national and international cycles and festivals and have been included in a dozen CDs recorded in Spain and the United States. The scores can be found in various publishers in Spain and Germany. National Radio (RNE2) has dedicated an entire program to her music ("Inventario de inventores"), which has also been recorded by Radio France (Fr. Musique) and WXEL National Public Radio (USA).
She is the author of the treatise “Antitonal Compositional Techniques: A Study of Three Counterpoint Treatises” (Editorial Piles), as well as the books “Charles Seeger: Tradition and Experimentation in New Music” (Autonomous University of Madrid) and, in co-authorship with Teresa Catalán, “Non-Tonal Music: The Proposals of J. Falk and E. Krenek” (University of Valencia). Her research work is also reflected in various articles and papers in specialized journals, as well as in several publications linked to universities.
She regularly teaches courses and lectures at festivals and educational institutions. Through a competitive examination, she has been a tenured professor at the Conservatori Superior de les Illes Balears since 2001 and has been the head of its Composition Department since the 2006-07 academic year.
